How to set up employee performance reviews with Pulses

Performance reviews using Hi5

Want to run annual performance reviews? You can do that with Hi5! Use our Pulses feature to set up and run paperless, recurring feedback surveys that you can deep-dive into in realtime!

Here's a quick step-by-step video, with instructions below:

Step 1: Switch Pulses on

Go to My Company > Settings. Under the Settings tab, make sure Pulses is toggled on. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Update Settings button.

Step 2: Create a new Pulse

Go to your Manage Pulses tab under Pulses. If you don't see it after toggling Pulses on in Settings, refresh the page.

Now, click on the Add New Pulse button in the bottom right-hand side corner of the screen to start creating a new Pulse.

Pulse Templates

Besides creating pulses from scratch, you can use templates. At the top of your page you should see Pulse Templates - these are ready-to-use Pulse Templates based on verified surveys. Learn more about Pulse Templates >

Step 3: Build your Pulse/Choose who reviews whom

Give your new Pulse a name, and choose your Pulse type under the What are you creating? dropdown .

In your pulse settings, under the Pulse type section, you have the following options:

Rate the Company: All employees rate the company.
Individual: Select employee(s) to be rated.
External Feedback: Send a Pulse for feedback about anything.
Self-rating Only

Advanced Types:
Bottom up: Employees rate their Line Managers.
Top Down: Line Managers rate their employees.
Everyone rates Everyone: All co-workers rate each other.
Full 360: Employees rate each other based on their Line Manager + team.

Additional Options:
Self-rating: Employees rate themselves.
Allow Sharing: Share unique link with people outside of your company.

Step 4

Then be sure to select Recurring from the following dropdown option, set the frequency of your recurring performance review to Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Bi-yearly or Yearly.

Step 5

Add your sections & questions, and then click Next. Make sure you've set up goals for your co-workers, and that you've added your company values.

In the pulse settings, be sure to tick Notifications & Reminders: you can choose to send reminders to your co-workers via Email or Microsoft Teams, and whether they should go out 10, 5 and/or 1 days before the deadline. This way your co-workers will be reminded each time they need to complete their performance reviews.

Step 4: Choose who reviews whom

Once you're done, you can click Save Draft for later editing, or Publish to make your recurring performance review live!

Viewing Pulse stats & Individual Reports

View Pulse Stats

To see the results of your company's surveys or performance reviews, click on the graph icon (View Pulse Stats) next to the Pulse.

Here you'll be able to see the Summary results compiled in graphs, as well as the Individual results for a breakdown of the responses.

On the right you will see how many ratings have been completed, as well as the current Pulse deadline.

Pro tip: If you'd like to see the pulse responses done over a certain time period, you can use the time period filter in the top-left corner of the Pulse report to filter by date. This is very helpful if you're using pulses to run quarterly reviews and would like to see the current quarter's results or a previous quarter's results.

Individual reports

To get Individual reports for each co-worker on all the Pulses they have participated in (self-rating, rating their co-workers, company pulses or Individual Pulses where they have been rated by their co-workers), go to My Company > Reports > Individual Reports.

Click on the CSV or PDF icon in the bottom right-hand corner to download the report.
